Donate fresh produce to local “heros”

Raleigh-based company, The Produce Box, specializes in delivering fresh, local produce directly to homes, including the Charlotte area. Customers can select from a variety of boxes: small for homes with just 1 or 2 people to organic to larger boxes for larger families. The Produce Box also has an outreach program to help deliver fresh, local produce that customers can order when they are online. The “Hero Boxes” are delivered to local fire and police stations, veteran organizations, schools, and more. The “Community Boxes” of bulk produce are delivered to local food banks. New Program, Grow Local Give Back

The Elma C. Lomax Incubator Farm and Carolina Farm Stewardship have joined forces to raise $11,000 to grow 11,000 pounds of food. The new program entitled Grow Local, Give Back uses sweet potato and onion plants donated from New Sprout Organic Farms and Walker Organic Farms to teach farmers-in-training to grow crops. Then the vegetables they grow are donated to local food pantries in Cabarrus County. Donations of as little as $1 are accepted; a $25 donation includes membership to Carolina Farm Stewardship.
