In 2007, the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) and their partners developed a program entitled “The 10% Campaign” designed to build a sustainable local food economy. The initiative’s goal is to encourage North Carolinians to spend a minimum of 10% of their food dollars purchasing locally grown or raised food.
Individuals are encouraged to make the pledge on the “The 10% Campaign” website (Click HERE for link). Enrollees then receive weekly emails with a few simple questions enabling the CEFS to track spending progress statewide.
The Cabarrus County Food Policy Council supports this initiative and encourages county residents to take the pledge and to urge family, friends and coworkers to sign-up as well. Together, the community can support local producers and farmers creating a sustainable food system.
